Despite the successful creation of European research networks and platforms such as www.necs.org, study programs such as www.imacsite.net and EU-funded research projects such as www.victor-e.eu  film studies continues to be grounded in the sociopolitical framework of the nation state: cinema studies, to a large extent, is still the study of national cinemas. Against this backdrop AGE-C will contribute toward the consolidation of the EU research area by positioning cinema studies as a thoroughly transnational field and by articulating national within transnational perspectives.

AGE-C contributes towards the creation of a European research space by bringing together an international team of researchers whose expertise covers an important share of the EU’s and its neighbors’ territory. Together we conduct and empirical study of how filmmakers and audiences view and interpret issues of old age and gender in European cinema. Our research helps us better understand the current state of European cinema and has further implications for health care and cultural policy
