The raised questions will be answered through a combination of a star studies and reception studies combining qualitative interviews and ethnography with digital methods. Based on the assumption that the affective charges of “lasting” stardom shape the way audiences view old age and their own life choices, the project aims to trace this impact through reviews, public debates about specific films, interviews with festival audiences, and other forms of autobiographical narratives.
While qualitative methods will focus on specific case studies and localized reception events, digital methods will be employed to trace reception and track how references to films shape public and policy debates through larger data sets available online.
The interpretation of the data will be conducted in consultation with specialists from gerontology and gender studies, and the results will be aggregated on the project database.
