Announcement: Upcoming Conference on “Work and Play. Studying the Labour of and Around Acting in Contemporary European Cinema”

We are delighted to announce an engaging two-day conference, “Work and Play. Studying the Labour of and Around Acting in Contemporary European Cinema,” organized by our Italian collegues Francesco Pitassio and Gloria Dagnino from Università degli Studi di Udine. Join us in the historic Aula Magna, Centro Polifunzionale di Gorizia, via Santa Chiara 1, Gorizia, on July 10th and 11th, 2024.
Conference Theme: This conference delves into the multifaceted aspects of acting within the broader context of European cinema, focusing on the intersection of labour, identity, and technology, offering a platform for rich discussions and innovative insights.

- Christopher Holliday from King’s College London will open the conference with his renowned expertise in digital media as he discusses “The Asset Effect: New Digital Technologies in Contemporary European Screen Acting.”
- Catherine O’Rawe from the University of Bristol will present “Extra Time: The Performance and Labour of the Background Actor,” offering a unique perspective on the often overlooked contributions of background actors in film and television.
