AGE-C participates in XI Congreso Internacional Comunicación e Información Digital. Diálogos y conexiones en la era de la IA relacional, at the University of Zaragoza

Dr Luis Freijo has participated in the XI International Congress of Communication and Digital Information, entitled ‘Dialogues and Connections in the Age of Relational AI’, representing the research group AGE-C. Dr Freijo has enacted a collaboration between the media research group GICID, at the University of Zaragoza, organiser of the Congress, and AGE-C by coordinating one of 19 panels with the topic ‘Ageing and Gender in Contemporary Film and Media: Representation, Stardom, Production’. The panel has explored how different industrial, discursive, and stylistic practices contribute to produce the notion of ageing and gender across different contemporary film and media cultures.
The panel included three interventions. In the first one, entitled ‘Representaciones de género en series de ficción y redes sociales. Edadismo y eterna juventud’, Almudena Mata-Núnez, Sergio Jesús Villén Higueras and Álvaro Linares Barrones, researchers from the University of Sevilla, have conducted a study about the representation of women in Instragram AI-created models, on the one hand, and at comedy US television series, on the other. In the second one, entitled ‘Entre la visibilidad y el cliche: el envejecimiento en And Just Like That…’, Silvia Garcia Miron, researcher from the University of Vigo, has analysed female representation and ageing in the series And Just Like That, sequel to Sex and the City, paying special attention to the different ageing female roles that each of the protagonists enacts, as well as to the celebrity discourses behind the three main actresses.
Finally, Luis Freijo has contributed a paper on ageing and the rural world in Spanish cinema. The paper entails a quantitative study of the main trends in the conjunction of older citizens in the Spanish rural space, including share of fiction, documentary and animation films, gender imbalance between actors in the fiction films, and main thematic trends. The output encompasses data drawn from the soon-to-be published AGE-C dataset, and it will become one of the first publications derived from AGE-C data.
The presentations (in Spanish) are available for watching in the Congress’ website: https://cicid.es/simposios/envejecimiento-y-genero-en-cine-y-medios-contemporaneos-representacion-estrellato-produccion/
