AGE-C Final Conference: Ageing & Gender in European Cinema

The AGE-C research project will hold its final international conference on 8–9 September 2026 at Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris.

Over two days, researchers and film professionals will explore how contemporary European cinema represents ageing and gender. The programme addresses topics including ageing stardom, stereotypes and visibility, care work, retirement, creativity, sexuality and queer ageing. The AGE-C research teams will also present the project’s main comparative findings.

The conference will conclude with a professional roundtable bringing together representatives from acting, film production and the European film industry to discuss current challenges and future perspectives.

AGE-C contributes towards the creation of a European research space by bringing together an international team of researchers whose expertise covers an important share of the EU’s and its neighbors’ territory. Together we conduct and empirical study of how filmmakers and audiences view and interpret issues of old age and gender in European cinema. Our research helps us better understand the current state of European cinema and has further implications for health care and cultural policy
